Skate Buddy: find your ice dance or pairs partner

Finding a partner is the hardest part of ice dance and pairs. Skate Buddy helps skaters, parents and coaches find the right partner, set up a tryout and keep the coach involved.

Ask any ice dancer or pair skater what the hardest part of the sport is. Most won’t say the twizzles or the throw triple. They’ll say finding a partner.

A good partner has to be the right height, the right level, the right role, close enough to train together and ready to commit. Today, finding one mostly means word of mouth, a post in a group chat, a coach who knows a coach who might know someone. Good skaters can spend months, sometimes whole seasons, training alone because the right partner was two rinks away and nobody connected them.

We built Skate Buddy to fix that.

What Skate Buddy does

Skate Buddy is a free app that brings ice dance and pairs skaters, parents and coaches together in one place.

  • Search for a partner. Filter by discipline (ice dance or pairs), role, level and distance from your rink. Every profile shows the details that matter on the ice: level, home rink, coach and the partnering numbers.
  • See how you’d fit. Each profile shows a quick read on height and level, so you know if a tryout is worth it before you ask.
  • Watch them skate. Skaters can add an intro video and skill clips, so you see real skating, not just a list of tests.
  • Ask for a tryout. Send a tryout request with a short note. If they say yes, a chat opens so you can talk about goals and plan a session.
  • Find a coach. Skaters without a coach can find coaches near them, see their credentials and ask for a tryout lesson.

Coaches stay in the loop

In skating, partnerships are made coach to coach. Skate Buddy works the same way.

Coaches create a community and invite their skaters with one link. They can see the tryout requests their skaters send and receive, and who the other skater’s coach is, so arranging a tryout is a short conversation between two coaches instead of a long chain of texts.

For coaches this means more than convenience. The right partner keeps a skater on the ice, in lessons and competing for years.

Built for families

Many skaters looking for partners are teenagers, so safety isn’t an afterthought:

  • Profiles for skaters under 18 are run by a parent, using the parent’s own account.
  • No one under 13 can sign up.
  • Profiles show the skater’s coach, and anyone can block or report a profile.

It’s a sports app first: the language is “tryout” and “partnership”, and profiles lead with skating, not selfies.

Who it’s for

  • Ice dancers and pair skaters looking for a new partner, whether you’re juvenile, senior or adult.
  • Parents who want a safe, simple way to help their skater find the right partner.
  • Coaches who want to place their skaters with the right partner and make tryouts easy to set up.
